If you disagree with an IRS decision, you might have the right to appeal. Eligible taxpayers should mail a written protest to the IRS address listed in the letter explaining their appeal rights. (Don’t send it to the Independent Office of Appeals, because this may cause delays.) The IRS Examination or Collection office will review your dispute and attempt to resolve the issue. If a resolution can’t be reached, your case will be forwarded to Appeals for an independent review. You may represent yourself, but working with a qualified tax professional can strengthen your case. We’re here to help.
