In the lead-up to this year’s tax filing season, which officially begins on Jan. 26, the IRS has announced significant leadership and operational changes. IRS CEO Frank Bisignano detailed new priorities and an executive reorganization in a letter to the agency’s 74,000 employees. The moves aim to improve service and modernize IRS infrastructure. Other 2026 priorities include protecting taxpayer privacy and improving tax collections. These changes coincide with preparations to process over 160 million 2025 income tax returns and implement major tax law updates under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, signed into law in July 2025.
