Here’s some good news: IRS filing data shows that, so far this tax filing season, taxpayers’ average tax refunds are 10.6% higher compared to the same period in 2025. According to the IRS, as of Feb. 27, the average refund for individual filers was $3,742, up from $3,382 in 2025. This data was culled from the roughly 51.5 million individual federal returns processed thus far.
